  • Primary Purpose of Position

    Equipment Specialist will perform a variety of functions associated with the selection, acquisition, implementation, and qualification (FAT, IQ, OQ, and PQ) of all equipment and systems related to the laboratories, logistics, and manufacturing departments.  The Equipment Specialist will assure that all equipment and systems operate in a safe and sound manner through proper calibration, maintenance, and repairs while developing and providing proper functionality training to others.  Under the supervision of management, will have the oversight of contractors performing maintenance and/or service activities on equipment and systems. Will confer with management to identify equipment and systems with areas of concern and prioritize projects based on need.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Provide support to other departments, as assigned.
    • Maintain a technical knowledge of all equipment (biological safety cabinets, centrifuges, freezers, heat sealers, incubators, lyophilized, refrigerators, etc.) and systems (compressed gas, compressed air, electrical, process controls, purified steam, USP water, etc.).
    • Responsible for developing and reviewing all documentation related to each piece of equipment and system.
    • Provide technical assistance and training to others on setup, operation and care of equipment and system
    • Respond to service request for calibration, maintenance, and repair.
    • Maintain communication with contractors, operators, and management to assure all concerns are communicated, documented, and resolved in a timely manner.
    • Identifies most effective use of resources for the procurement of equipment.
    • Manages single and multi-phase projects to assure all activities are completed based on established guidelines, priorities, and timeframes.
    • Adheres to and complies with all Federal, State, and Locals laws as well as company policies and rules, while assuring team members and contractors do the same. 
    • Participates in the development and implementation of calibration, operation, and maintenance programs.
    • Participate in failure analysis and improvement programs to identify discrepancies in maintenance, operational, calibration, etc., procedures.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of FAT’s, IQ, OQ, and PQ’s.
    • Will be responsible for editing and writing procedural documentation.
    • Will participate in the establishment of approved vendors and contractors
    • Perform equipment calibrations, installations, maintenance,  repairs, setups and training within a classified work environment.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED and Associate Degree in Biomedical Technology or related study preferred.  Will also consider applicants with five (5) years of previous experience as an Equipment Specialist or Validation technician in a medical device or biotech field.
    • Must have experience with Microsoft applications (Excel, Project Management, PowerPoint, Word etc.)
    • Must be able to interpret and utilize P & ID, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings and schematics.
    • Must be proficient with hand tools and diagnostic equipment (multi-meter, process meters, etc.).
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
    • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Must have excellent writing and communication skills.
    • Must be reliable in attendance and willing to participate in the on-call program, work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends.
    • Must be willing to travel on and as needed basis.
    • Must have reliable transportation and a willingness to use it for company purposes.
    • Clean driving record.

     

    PREFERRED:

    • Associates Degree in Biomedical Technology
    • EPA section 608, “Universal Refrigeration License”
    • Building Management System experience.
    • CAD or related program experience.
    • Experience in a biotech company preferred.
